3 Anime Considerations for Summer 2016

Welcome everyone! So there are quite a few anime running this season. I wanted to take some time to mention some of the anime I am personally following, and that you might enjoy. These anime are not necessarily the best of the season, but I do welcome you to check them out! Now without further ado, let us dive right in!

#3- Sweetness and Lightning (Amaama to Inazuma)

This anime, in one word, is cute. If you like slice of life or more mature anime, this is a good one to check out. Admittedly, it is pretty slow at times, and the story does not entirely seem to be going anywhere.  On the positive side of things, it does deal with mature themes associated with single parenting. Other than that, there really is not much more to say about the series. I personally at the start had hoped there would be a little more “emotional meat” to the story. It still enjoyable, just not necessarily quite the experience I had wanted or hoped for.

#2- Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Second Plate

If you have not seen the first season, go watch it. I’m serious, go watch it right this minute. Food Wars season one completely hyped me for a second helping of the anime. Its creative visual depictions of taste and variety of characters really helped bring charm to the show, even if it went a little over top with fanservice on occasion. The Second Plate brought this back, but not as much as the first season. It is far more serious in its attitude, and pushes you right into the show from the beginning with a very abrupt start. It is still good, but feels like a slightly different show than season one.

#1- 91 Days

This show was a complete impulse try for me, and I am absolutely loving it. It definitely feels a bit like the The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas, since the whole show centers around revenge. Add this to the fact it’s set in Prohibition America, with plenty of alcohol and guns lying about, and you can see how this show gets pretty gritty. The story line is plenty complex, so if a mystery suspense story sounds enticing to you, do watch 91 Days.

What anime are you keeping up with this season? I hope you enjoyed reading my post!
