Back to School Specials- Ten Female Anime & Manga Characters You Want To Be Desk Mates With
This is a female version of the male one. Yeah, that’s about it.
Okay, this list is gonna be a mess. Hope you don’t have many expectations of spending your time wisely by reading this. I doubt it.
#10: Asuka Langely Soryu (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
You may be asking yourself, “Why this person? They’re from Evangelion. Plus, she was really annoying.” Well, those are completely valid points. Evangelion does not have a good rep among a decent helping of anime fans, and Asuka was rather annoying at times. So why is she here exactly? Well, I have a fascination with the unhinged. If I were a student sitting next to Asuka, I would use that opportunity to dissect her complex psyche. Her uncertainty from being one of the Children, her childhood trauma, her mother etc. She is a goldmine of mental illness.
Yes, I am sick. Thanks for noticing. Shall we move on to the serious entries now?
#9: Konata Izumi (Lucky Star)
I don’t think I even need to explain this choice. Konata is every otaku’s best friend. She has dedicated her life to everything that we hold dear, and would be an indispensable friend on any trip through Akihabara. Having a chat with her would be a great break in any school day. Yup, really easy choice here.
#8: Mio Naganohara (Nichijou)
There is really only one reason that I chose this character. Watch the following clip from Nichijou.
Yes. Just… yes. “Idiot…..”
#7: Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Again, a no-brainer. Haruhi is ideal eccentric girl who has the personality of dynamite, and a body to match. It’s her quirkiness and energy that’ll help get you through any school day, as long as you are able to stir her interest in you. I believe that following Kyon’s approach would do just nicely. So yeah, if you ever want the strangest school experiences possible, sit next to Haruhi.
#6: Hime Onizuka (SKET Dance)
Hime is the girl with whom you want to be on good terms with for a few reasons. First, she has the ability to cave your head in if you get on her bad side, or put your enemies in extreme pain if you are her friend and are in a pinch. Second, she’s got strange taste (those lolipops look disgusting) but she’s a loyal person. If you are her friend, then you can expect that you will be in her thoughts. It’s nice to have someone you can trust in school, especially if they’re sitting next to you.
#5: Yassan (Daily Lives of High School Boys)
As one of the few females in a male-dominated show, and one of the very few who actually have a fully animated face, Yassan holds her own amongst the hormone-filled, immature cast that populate this hilarious show. While an aspiring writer, Yassan has the strange inability to communicate properly in both speech and body language. She is very insular, which may be off-putting if you sat next to her, but it’s always good to have someone around you who is willing to give you your personal space. You don’t have to be friends with everyone, because some people just have other things in their head. However, if I were to strike up a conversation with Yassan, I’d be perfectly content having it center around her writing career.
#4: Sawako Kuronuma (Kimi ni Todoke)
The compliment to Kazehaya on the male version of this list, Sawako is both intelligent, really helpful, nice, pretty, and gentle. There is literally no negative to this person (besides her timidness, that can be annoying). However, if you’re looking for desk space near her, you are gonna have to fight more than a couple of people.
#3: Ayumu Kasuga (Azumanga Daioh)
Yeah, Osaka. I chose Osaka. Why? ‘Cause she’s just amusing to watch. She is the girl in the class that you look to for entertainment when the class is in a lull. Can’t pay attention to the teacher? Peek over at Osaka. She’s probably trying to maintain eye contact with a mosquito. Look back a few minutes later and what do you see? She’s probably eating lunch early. With Osaka, you just know it’s gonna be something to take your mind off of things, which is always a relief.
#2: Kafuka Fuura (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei)
Fuura is another simple one. She is positive thinking-incarnate. She cannot fathom a negative response, comment, question or intention. If you are depressed (which you probably are at some point), just ask Fuura for a word or two of happiness. She has more than enough.
#1: Shino Amakusa (Seitokai Yakuindomo)
This must be my mean streak. I decided to make this list completely for the lolz and waste your time. Why in god’s name is this person here? She has sex on the mind 24/7, but she looks like the template for a student council president. That duality is not typical purely because of the extent to which she thinks of sex and communicates about it. To have someone like this sitting next to you is nothing short of… distracting. And yet, everyone on this list is a distraction in some sense. Because they are anime characters, the are extremes in one aspect or another, and that is what will distract you from the class, from the teacher and from your work. So, in for a penny, in for a pound. What distracts people the most? Sex. At least we’ll get a laugh or two out of her naivete.
Well, that’s all for now folks. See you later, and have a great day!
