Will this be the movie to spawn more spin offs?

Upcoming Ghost In The Shell live-action film’s probably one of the most hyped anime based movies of the past decade. Being based on an anime, which came out almost two decades ago, just shows how loved this franchise truly is. Following our main protagonist, Major Motoko Kusanagi, who has a fully prosthetic body due to tragic events in her past.

The Controversy

Scarlett Johansson (who’s personally one of my favorite actors) is playing the role, closely resembling Kusanagi. Recently a fan put both the films short trailer and anime side by side to show their almost perfect resemblance. Upon announcement of the ghost in the shell action film being produced there was a lot of backlash.

Some fans on the web said the film contained a lot of white washing. Rupert Sanders, the director, and Johansson have replied back saying they have high hopes for the film. Due to the fact that they a vast variety cast members who don’t have big names in the movie industry, they can focus more on the main character, Kusanagi, in order to bring her story to light.

What We’ve Seen So Far

More trailers have been released over the past few months showing what we can expect from the film. Packed with tons of action along with good CGI the film doesn’t look as though it will be lacking in that department. But that isn’t enough these days to drive a movie through the box office.

Movie goers must believe that this film will follow its manga and anime upbringing. A title alone isn’t enough to get people out of their house and to the theaters. Will you be watching the movie in 2017? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!

Watching anime has been a hobby of mine since the age of six. Since the 90s I've watched hundreds of anime and hope to see many more. I'm also the founder and owner of Unime, an upcoming anime social networking site.

  1. I probably will watch the movie, although I will keep my expectations in check because a lot of live action flicks based on anime don’t tend to be good (Dragon Ball for example.)
