LacieRoseve’s Top 10 Anime

lacieroseve424 views

Hi there! I know there are a lot of anime series out there but there are series which stand out from the rest. Thus it is inevitable for us, anime viewers, to rank which are the best. I know that factors when it comes to choosing may be subjective to one’s personal biases and I for one has a set of my own. I’d like to state  what factors affected my decisions though to guide me in making my list. So first, let’s see the factors I considered.

  1. They should be anime series which seriously cannot slip my mind.  This is the most important factor which I think any outstanding series should have. Besides, every creator would want his/her series to remain a legacy.
  2. They should have a good plot. How would I define a good plot? It’s a story where each character is taken into consideration, be it the lead character or just a supporting character. Like every person living, each character’s pasts should be well presented as this affects how the character makes a decision.
  3. They should contain some lessons. What’s the point of watching a series without learning anything? A good anime series should be able to broaden one’s horizon either of these two ways: by inspiring the viewer or by opening one’s eyes to reality.

I know some may be concerned about how well a series is drawn or how good the animation is but for me, these are just a plus. I know being an eye-candy is important to attract the viewers to try the series. But does it end there? A viewer forms his/her own opinion about the story after they watch it… What makes the plot memorable is the deepest question every anime viewer asks in the end.

Usually, series starting with female leads appeal to girls while series starting with male leads appeal to boys. So I’d like to divide my top 10 to two categories. I have selected my Top 5 with female leads and another Top 5 with male leads.

Without further adieu, here are the anime series I included in my Top 10 Anime.

Series starring Female leads:

#5: Skip Beat

PictureSynopsis:
Kyouko Mogami spent almost all her life loving Sho Fuwa. When she heard that Sho actually only uses her to live a worry-free life in Tokyo, she rages and swears she’ll crush him into pieces. Sho is already a very famous singer though and in order for her revenge to work, she needs to enter the same stage as him. Kyouko then decides to enter showbiz by joining an audition. She did gain the interest of the president but failed the last part of the test. The president has seen her potential though so he gave her a chance under one condition: to be the very first member of the newly formed department called “Love me section” and to wear its hilarious uniform which can hardly be unnoticed! Why? It’s bright pink!!!!!!

  • Pros: The series will definitely make you laugh almost every scene that you’ll even forget your problems in life!
  • Cons: You will have to read the manga after to know the rest of the story.

Why is it #5? My Reasons:

  • Factor #1: Memorable? Pass!!!
Yes!!!!! I remember myself either laughing almost every seen or smiling the whole time I was not laughing!
  • Factor #2: Good plot? I guess so?
The anime was able to explain Kyouko’s character well… but for the others? Not really. It seems to me that the series was made to encourage viewers to read its manga… which kinda makes me sad for those who only want to watch the anime.
  • Factor#3: Take away? Pass!!!
Yes! It makes one realize that one’s past can help in your future’s success.

#4: Fushigi Yuugi

PictureSynopsis:
The story starts with Miaka Yuuki, an average student preparing for entrance exams. Accompanying her best friend Yui when they suddenly gets sucked inside the book of The Universe of the Four Gods. Yui was able to return right after though leaving Miaka behind. Miaka then sets into a journey to be able to get back to her own world. However when she successfully returned to the real world, her friend Yui was taken as the replacement by the book. As such, she had no other choice but to go back in it again to save Yui.

There are different twists in the story. One is that Miaka fell in love with Tamahome even though he is just a character from a book. Another is that Yui became the Priestess of Seiryuu, and part of the enemy’s camp. It then turns out that she needs to summon their beast god before her best friend does.

How will she fight for love while still being able to fulfill her responsibilities as a priestess? Will she and Yui be best friends again?

  • Pros: It’s kinda original. It’s the first series I’ve seen back in year 2000 having the main character live in the world inside the book.
  • Cons: I’d say it’s intended for mature viewers because it does contain some sensitive scenes. Also, every character falls in love with Miaka – which I find too weird.

Why is it #4? My Reasons:

  • Factor #1: Memorable? Pass!!!
How could I ever not include this series in the list when I repeated this 52-episode series almost every month together with the 3 OVAs it had back then! See, I even followed Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu no Kaiden, the manga released after which remains to be related to the Book of the Universe of the Four Gods.
  • Factor #2: Good plot? Pass!!!
It does pass my definition of a good plot. Every character’s past is shown and explained, be it the Suzaku 7 or the Seiryuu’s celestial warriors. Yuu Watase succeeded in being able to give reasons as to why each character feels the way they do.
  • Factor#3: Take away? Pass!!!
There are indeed some things the viewer may realize when watching the series. Like for example I won’t ever forget Miaka’s sentence in the OVA: “If being mature means losing the one you love, then I refuse to be an adult.”

#3: Full Moon wo Sagashite

PictureSynopsis:
Mitsuki Kyoyama is just 12 years old but she is already fighting sarcoma. To be able to live, she needs to undergo an operation which may result to her losing her voice.  Keiichi Wakaōji, her doctor, tries his best to convince her but she continues to say no. After all, she loves singing plus she dreams to be a very famous singer and make her songs eventually reach Eichi who is living in America.

Until one day, Mitsuki sees two shinigamis in her room. One is in a cat costume named Takuto and the other was in a bunny costume named Meroko. Surprised that she can see them, Takuto and Meroko becomes worried that she won’t let them take away her soul after she dies. To ensure that they’ll have her soul, Takuto promises Mitsuki to let her try in the audition she badly wanted to go to. With the help of Takuto’s powers, Mitsuki transforms into her 16 year old healthy self and is able to use her voice in any way she wants. To the shinigami’s surprise, Mitsuki passes the audition and from there her career as “Full Moon” starts.

  • Pros: The story starts with giving off a very pure feeling which later on further develops as the character matures.
  • Cons: It’s a bit longer than the series nowadays. It has 52 episodes.

Why is it #3? My Reasons:

  • Factor #1: Memorable? Pass!!!
Yes! The story definitely has a good twist that it made me even read the manga version. The manga was a bit different from the anime but I’d say both are excellent!
  • Factor #2: Good plot? Pass!!!
Yes! It did presented information about cast’s past which became really important in the flow of the story later on.
  • Factor#3: Take away? Pass!!!
  • Live your life to the fullest.
  • When you start to lose the reason to live, you’ll find yourself stronger as you find another meaning for your life.

#2: Kyoukai no Kanata

Picture
Synopsis:
Contrary to my title, this tale started with a boy named Akihito Kanbara, an immortal. However, the series did not fail to make the girl’s side as intense as the boy’s past experiences. >_< I honestly do not know where to categorize this one but I really love it and it really deserves to be in my Top 10.

The story starts with Akihito who sees a girl at the top of their school building. He thought that she’s committing  suicide so he ran and went to convince her not to do so. The series of events was fast as the girl suddenly  transformed her blood to a sword and stabbed his heart. The girl is none other than Mirai Kuriyama, one clan’s last living descendant. Only her clan has the power to use blood as a deadly weapon to kill a youmu.

What is the real reason behind Mirai stabbing Akihito? Is it merely for practice to become a full pledge Spirit Warrior?

  •  Pros: You’ll get to dive deeper into the views and situations facing the characters.
  • Cons: Be ready to dry your tears if you’ll watch this because it can definitely touch one’s heart!!! So I suggest you to watch it alone in your room since your family might think someone just broke your heart!

Why is it #2? My Reasons:

  • Factor #1: Memorable? Pass!!!
I cried a lot in this anime!!! Almost every scene has something you will want to remember!
  • Factor #2: Good plot? Yes!!!
The characters are well portrayed in an unimaginable way despite having only 12 episodes!
  • Factor#3: Take away? Pass!!!
There lies a bigger truth than the truth which was first shown.

#1: Nana

Picture
Synopsis:
The story starts between two female characters with big differences in their personality. Perhaps, the only common thing between them is their name – both of them being Nana. Nana Osaki wanted to be famous in the music industry while Nana Komatsu, who is later on known as Hachi, simply her love life to have a happy ending. While both of them met at the train station, they only became good friends when they decided to be room mates after they coincidentally find themselves looking at the same apartment for rent.

  • Pros: You’ll see yourself finding a the most beautiful gem out of a pile of gold! No words can even explain how deeply moving and mind-bugging this series is!
  • Cons: Watching this is kinda addictive making you crave for other information about the story. You’ll find yourself watching the live-action movie version or reading the manga right after… Last time I read the manga though, I find myself very sad because the author is sick ;-;

Why is it #1? My Reasons:

  • Factor #1: Memorable? Pass!!!
Yeeeees!!! It’s one of the coolest anime I’ve seen so far!!!! I remember myself laughing, crying or making a  hypothesis about the character’s next possible actions only to be dumbfounded because it takes another surprising turn!
  • Factor #2: Good plot? Pass!!!
Yes! While the story revolves around two characters, others’ background stories were well presented. This definitely helps the viewer see how the decisions were made and why it has to be so – making  the story be very interesting!
  • Factor#3: Take away? Pass!!!
There are several things about life you will realize after seeing Nana. Almost every chapter of their life contains unforgettable lessons as each of the characters makes an important decision… Plus it honestly made me realize this out of the big picture: there are times when the differences between two characters’ personalities can actually bring about the most surprising interesting combination.

Series starring Male leads:

#5: No game no life

Picture

The story starts with two gamers: Sora and his stepsister named Shiro. Together they form the identity of Blank, a very famous player in the internet having been undefeated in any games. Yes! It’s one of the most hilarious anime there even though it makes your brain think hard.
  • Factor #2: Good plot? Yes…
It does contain some information about the character’s past… The story focuses more on how Blank can win the game though.
  • Factor#3: Take away? Pass!!!
I believe so. It made me realize how important it is to take everything into consideration before making a a gamble.

#4: Magi – Labyrinth of Magic
PictureSynopsis:
The story starts with the encounter between Alibaba Saluja and Aladdin in a city where the unconquered dungeon of the Djinn Amon is. Both became really good friends as they finish the dungeon together. Due to circumstances however, they had to travel separate paths. Yes!!! This series was able to expand the story as it lets its audience to the characters’ pasts.
  • Factor#3: Take away? Pass!!!

The series starts with a little brain storming between Gustav, the vice president of the “Daily Days” newspaper, and Carol, the assistant. The two were trying to find out the whole story behind a series of events. Carol chooses Firo as the main character.

The story first revolves around the Pussy Foot incident currently being investigated. How some survived it became a mystery. There is more to the story than this though. #1: One Piece

Picture
Synopsis:
The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy aspiring to become the pirate king and find “One Piece,”  the treasure Gol D. Roger proclaimed he has before his execution. (Roger’s words marked the start of “The Great Pirate Era” since it motivated every pirate there is to travel to the Grand Line.) He sets on a journey to recruit members who will be with him in his journey to the Grand Line. They will later be famous and be known as the straw hat pirates.

Luffy is not an ordinary human. Ever since he ate a devil’s fruit, his body has transformed to that of a rubber, giving him all the flexibility he needs to defeat his enemies. There is one great consequence of eating a devil’s fruit though: anyone who eats it will not be able to swim.

Luffy’s crew is not normal either. His first member is a Zoro, a pirate hunter, who wants to be the world’s number one swordsman. Zoro defeats his enemies with the use of 3 swords. Next is Nami, a thief who is very skilled at navigating across the sea. She has the power to forecast the weather. He also have Usopp, a very good sniper. Sanji, the team’s chef, uses his legs to win his battles. They also have a doctor named Chopper who only gain human characteristics due to a devil’s fruit. Robin, a historian who is another devil fruit user also became part of their crew. They have Franky maintaining the ship under good condition and Brook entertaining them with his music too.

  • Pros: Luffy’s journey will surely make its viewers see how vast the world is as they encounter a variety of races, traveling from one island to another.
  • Cons: It’s one of the longest anime there is right now.

Why is it #1? My Reasons:

  • Factor #1: Memorable? Pass!!!
Yes!! It has a fine touch of comedy, adventure, and action!! The series remains to be interesting despite having such length. I’m more into its manga nowadays though.
  • Factor #2: Good plot? Pass!!!
Definitely! The past of each character is revealed allowing the viewers to have an in-depth realization why the characters are who they are. These episodes will even make you cry.
  • Factor#3: Take away? Pass!!!
Dream big and do something to achieve it. Luffy may indeed have a grand dream but it did not end in one talking.
