The Inaugural 2017 “Unime” Awards!
Land of the Lustrous
Land of the Lustrous is a show that I went into expecting very little from… and was immediately blown away. It’s a very strong contender for the prettiest looking show I’ve ever seen, actually. Made largely in 3DCG, I was a bit nervous for how it would look, but with beautifully fluid animation and stunning art, the show is a visual masterpiece. If you’re in the market for a high-quality, unique Anime to watch, this is very high on my recommendation list.
Though I am not a huge fan of the show itself, I couldn’t help but watch through the entirety of Granblue. Why? The art is breathtaking. I love how everything looks freshly sketched. The little pencil marks in the character’s lining really emphasize the show’s style. It draws me in, and I thoroughly enjoy looking at the art for this show.
Granblue Fantasy was first made into a role-playing game so the whole vibe and art style of the animation follows that as well. The story isn’t anything new and first episodes feel very generic, but the art style is something I haven’t seen in anime in a while now. It makes me think of old Final Fantasy games for some reason. Really love the whole design and the transition from landscapes to tiny details!
