The Inaugural 2017 “Unime” Awards!
Anime of the Year
Little Witch Academia
2017 has been an incredible year, with some absolutely amazing shows to be seen. I had a really, really hard time deciding on what my Anime of the Year would be, especially deciding between Land of the Lustrous and Little Witch Academia. In the end, though, Little Witch Academia won out. I really enjoyed the show, it was one of the most unique and interesting shows I saw all year, with a super unique art style, interesting characters and a great story, and was packed full of love and soul, all the way through. If you haven’t had a chance to see it, I highly recommend it! It’s a great show, and really deserves more recognition.
Gamers! is one of those shows that really surprised me. It was the show I least expected to enjoy, and ended up enjoying most. Though the show is not without its flaws, the story, the exaggeration, the acceptance-of and the satire on RomCom tropes, and the writing all come together to form my personal favorite show of the year. There were plenty of other shows I threw up before this one, but after giving it a lot of thought, I realized that this show really stood out to me, more so than any other. I would highly recommend this show to anyone.
Welcome to the Ballroom
Welcome to the Ballroom is an anime I never expected to like or enjoy at all. The combination between comedy, sports and romance gives it a special kind of flavour, making it fun to watch but also represents a not very popular sport in a manner that would convince many to give it a try. It sheds a light onto more than just dance and competitions. It exposes the dancers soul, the thoughts behind every move. The development of characters is well done and you can actually relate to them, their thought process and also their relationships. Stepping out of your own little bubble and thinking of someone else, adapting to them and drawing the best out of them is exactly what gives this anime a special worth.
