With Cloud from Final Fantasy VII being announced for an upcoming Super Smash Bros DLC, and the looming prospect of a special “December Nintendo Direct” all about the game, I decided to make my wish list for who I would want announced.Super Smash Bros has always been a special game for me, as it always allowed for the titans of the gaming world to converge into one game. Finally, we can see Ryu from Street Fighter brawl it out against Little Mac (My boy!) from Punch Out! It’s every gamer’s dream! And with Super Smash Bros for Wii U constantly pumping out DLC with new characters and new stages, the dream keeps being extended!
Enough talk, let’s go over my top 5 characters that should be in Super Smash Bros for Wii U!
#5 – The Inklings -Splatoon
With the recent success of Nintendo’s new IP (Intellectual Property) of Splatoon, I’m surprised nothing transferred over to Super Smash Bros. Their attacks could each be a different weapon, and the final smash could be the Rainmaker summoning the paint tornado. Of course, each of their skins could be different accessories and team colors, as well as different genders.
#4 – Simon Belmont – Castlevania
NO NO NO NO! NO NO! GOD NO!
The Simon Belmont that belongs in Super Smash Bros is the original vampire hunter from the old 8-bit Castlevania games. What we need is the stoic patriarch of the Belmont family, not some dominatrix looking guy. Anyway, his attacks could include all of his arsenal, like throwing his crosses, holy water, and his whip. Heck, his whip could be used in his recovery! As for his final smash, I really can’t think of anything too special for the older Belmont, but that’s for Nintendo to work its magic!
#3 – Ryu Hayabusa – Ninja Gaiden
The most famous ninja in the history of gaming (next to Strider Hiryu) and belonging to one of the hardest video game trilogies on the NES, it’s a wonder why Ninja Gaiden’s main protagonist Ryu Hayabusa isn’t already hacking and slashing through Smash? All of his abilities, his special weapons and ninpo, can make for an amazing move set. As for his final smash, I can’t really think of one.
Please Nintendo, Ryu deserves it. He’s one of the greatest classics of old! Well..and bloodiest.
#2 – Shovel Knight
Probably the most likely candidate on this list to come in, I’m not advocating Shovel Knight because I enjoyed the game. I wouldn’t know because I’ve never played Shovel Knight…although I want too.
I’m rooting for Shovel Knight because he represents the online gaming community: the independent developers, or the “Indie devs.” Shovel Knight, Super Meat Boy, Isaac from the Binding of Isaac, I was even campaigning for the kid from Limbo. Indie developers have become the big boom in the gaming industry, proving that a developer doesn’t need to go through the corporate ladder in order to make a good game. Nintendo needs to capitalize on this huge market, and get something from the internet.
Shovel Knight will probably be the character on this list to make it into Super Smash Bros, especially with an Amiibo of him being released recently by Nintendo and the recent outcry to bring him in.
The Angry Video Game Nerd (Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures) – Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures got a release on Wii U and 3DS, making Nintendo actually okay to associate this internet phenomenon. Probably will never be in, because he’s WAY too adult. Constantly flips the bird, throws beer, and swears.
Bayonetta (Bayonetta Series) – A very popular choice indeed, but Masahiro Sakurai has said himself that Bayonetta will not be joining the battle. Too many sexual innuendos for kids, unfortunately.
Vaati (Legend of Zelda series) – What Super Smash Bros lacks is villains, and when people were demanding Ghirahim from The Legend of Zelda, I wanted the lesser known villain known as Vaati. You know, the villain in such games as Four Swords and Minish Cap? Unfortunately, this won’t happen, because he simply isn’t that popular.
Chrono (Chrono Trigger) – One of the most famous RPGs of all time, Chrono has been asked by everybody to be in the game. Fans have pleaded, begged, and even threatened Nintendo to allow him in. With Nintendo’s recent deal with Square Enix to get Cloud in, I wouldn’t be surprised if Chrono were not already talked about.
Tabuu (Super Smash Bros Brawl) – Again, Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS was missing a lot more new villains to play around with. I suggested the surprising idea of bringing the main antagonist of the Super Smash Bros Brawl story mode, Tabuu, in as a playable character. No deals would have to be etched out, and he already have a sprite in Nintendo’s possession. Although, I have no idea how they would finish him.
Bass (Megaman) – I’ll say it one last time: Super Smash Bros need new villains, and Bowser Junior is not cutting it! Instead of trying to make a move set for the extremely old Dr. Wily, I suggest the Anti-Hero to Megaman Classic, Bass. He could bring an interesting moveset, in my opinion.
#1 – Professor Hershel Layton – Professor Layton Series
Professor Layton, to me, is the king of all puzzle games. And through its reign, it’s main character Hershel Layton has proved to be the Sherlock Holmes of the gaming industry. Having skills in sword play, mechanics, and being a gentlemen all the same time, he is my top character that I want to play as in Super Smash Bros.
Some of his attacks could include sword swings from his sword battles with Descole and Anton, the slot machine gun from the casino scene in Unwound Future, he could run you over with his car, attack with his hat! This gentleman has literally done everything that could make a character eligible for a move set! Even when he made that hang glider out of all the house hold objects in Curious Village could be used as his recovery move.
As for his final smash, follow with me: He starts solving a sliding puzzle that he can control that deals damage as he slides the pieces. When that’s over, he can do this and deal a crap ton of damage when he points. It would capture Professor Layton in a nutshell, and leave puzzle goers and gentlemen such as me smiling with tears in our eyes.
That is my top 5 characters that I feel deserve to be in Super Smash Bros. Agree? Disagree? Have your own suggestions? Let me know in the comment section below. If you enjoyed this article, leave a like! Every bit counts! But until next time, this has been the Anime Analyst. Zachary, out.
